Submasq
Under the name Submasq, Subterranean Masquerade took shape in Israel in 1997 around guitarist and composer Tomer Pink, initially as a studio project with a changing lineup before becoming a band with a more stable roster. Submasq's music blends progressive metal, avant-garde metal, experimental rock and Eastern influences, with songwriting that also incorporates touches of psychedelia, jazz and alternation between clean vocals and rougher voices. After the EP Temporary Psychotic State in 2004, Subterranean Masquerade released Suspended Animation Dreams in 2005, then went through a long period of silence before resuming activity with the EP Home in 2013. This revival led to a new recording phase with The Great Bazaar in 2015, Vagabond in 2017, The Pros & Cons of Social Isolation in 2020 — made up of reworkings of earlier tracks and a cover — and Mountain Fever in 2021. Over the years Submasq has evolved its lineup and collaborated with several musicians from the metal scene, notably Kjetil Nordhus and Paul Kuhr, while developing a more regular stage presence in Europe, particularly alongside Orphaned Land.
