The Exploited

Formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, in the late 1970s, The Exploited quickly made their mark on the British punk scene with an abrasive sound, breakneck tempos, and blunt, socially charged lyrics. Driven by the voice of Wattie Buchan - the singer who has remained at the core of every lineup - the band aligned with the so-called UK82 wave, at the crossroads of street punk and hardcore punk. After early attention with the releases of "Army Life" and "Exploited Barmy Army," The Exploited delivered a run of early-1980s albums, including "Punk’s Not Dead" (1981) and "Troops of Tomorrow" (1982), which cemented a raw aesthetic: chanted slogans, simple, aggressive riffs, gang vocals, and themes of urban violence, unemployment, and distrust of institutions. The discography continued with "Let’s Start a War… (Said Maggie One Day)" (1983), "Horror Epics" (1985), and "Death Before Dishonour" (1987), then veered closer to crossover thrash on "The Massacre" (1990), "Beat the Bastards" (1996), and "Fuck the System" (2003), where The Exploited reinforced the metallic edge of their sound without abandoning punk’s vocal codes. Still an active live act, the band tours regularly across Europe and beyond, sharing bills with punk and metal outfits, and The Exploited remains synonymous with a direct, uncompromising brand of protest music.
