Steff La Cheffe
Active on the Swiss German hip-hop scene since the late 2000s, Steff la Cheffe develops a Bernese-dialect rap marked by beatbox and a deliberate blend of spoken verses and sung parts. Born in Bern, she first made a name for herself in battles and beatbox competitions before establishing a lasting presence in Swiss rap. Her first full-length album, "Bittersüessi Pille", was released in 2010 and laid the foundations for an artistic world where everyday narratives, social observation and introspection intersect. She followed with "Vögu zum Geburtstag" in 2013, which brought melody more to the fore and opened her writing to formats closer to songcraft while retaining a rap-derived rhythmic sense. With "Härz Schritt Macherin", released in 2018, Steff la Cheffe deepened the mix of hip-hop, pop and soul influences, supported by broader production and collaborations from the Swiss scene. In concert she alternates structured tracks, a cappella passages and beatbox sequences, cultivating an aesthetic in which the Bernese-dialect flow remains central, whether in clubs, at festivals or in more cross-disciplinary contexts between contemporary music and urban culture.
