Sonido Gallo Negro
Born in Mexico City in 2010, Sonido Gallo Negro formed as a collective of psychedelic cumbia drawing on Peruvian cumbia, rock and an aesthetic shaped by the Latin American sounds of the 1970s. The project originally brought together musicians from surf bands Espectroplasma, Twin Tones and Telekrimen, along with graphic artist and musician Dr. Alderete, who is also involved in the group’s visual identity. Anchored in the alternative scene of the Mexican capital, notably around the Multiforo Cultural Alicia, Sonido Gallo Negro develops an instrumental and vocal repertoire where guitars, organs, flute, Latin percussion and psychedelic textures intersect. Their discography includes Cumbia salvaje (2011), Sendero místico (2013), Ecos de otro mundo (2016), Mambo cósmico (2018), Unknown Future (2019) and Paganismo (2022). They also released the live album Ecos de Otro Negro / En Vivo en "El Multiforo Alicia" in 2016, several singles and EPs, and contributed to soundtracks with “Bocanegra” for Black Is Beltza (2018) and “Cumbia del Borras” for a compilation inspired by the film Roma that same year.
