Shahram Nazeri
Born in Kermanshah, in western Iran, Shahram Nazeri has established himself from the 1970s in the landscape of Persian and Kurdish traditional music, with a tenor voice nourished by repertoires of classical, popular, and Sufi works. Trained very early by masters of Iranian music, he develops an approach in which poetry occupies a central place, particularly that of Rûmî, which he helps to permanently inscribe in Persian musical interpretation. Shahram Nazeri has worked throughout his career with several instrumentalists and major composers of the Iranian scene, among them Hossein Alizadeh, Jalal Zolfonoun, Parviz Meshkatian, or Faramarz Payvar, and performs both in Iran and internationally. His style rests on an ample vocal line, ornamented but legible, carried by Persian modes, Kurdish inflections, and a constant tension between interiority and lyrical ardor. Among his recordings are Chavosh (1978), Gol-e Sadbarg (1984), Yadegar-e Doust (1984), Mystified: Poetry of Rumi (1997), Lulian (2005) and Arash Kamangir (2019). Shahram Nazeri has also led projects with his son Hafez Nazeri, in a continuity between family transmission and artistic openness.
