Selig

Formed in the early 1990s in Hamburg, the German band Selig belongs to German‑language rock marked by grunge, psychedelia and melancholic songwriting. Around singer Jan Plewka and guitarist Christian Neander, the group developed a dense sound, driven by a very present bass‑drums rhythm section and, originally, by keyboards that accentuated the psychedelic side. Selig gained attention in the mid‑1990s with the eponymous album 'Selig' in 1994, followed by 'Hier' in 1995 and 'Blender' in 1997, recorded notably with producer Franz Plasa, which anchored the band in the German‑language rock scene of the time. After splitting up in 1999, Selig reformed in 2008 and quickly resumed writing studio albums, beginning with 'Und endlich unendlich' in 2009, then 'Von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit' in 2010 and 'Magma' in 2013, before continuing with 'Kashmir Karma' in 2017 and 'Myriaden' in 2021. Selig's German lyrics, often introspective, mix with arrangements that alternate heavy passages and more pop‑oriented ballads, allowing the band to move between clubs and major festivals in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and to remain a lasting reference for German‑sung rock.
