Scorcher

Based in north London, between Bush Hill Park and Edmonton, Scorcher, born Tayó Grant Jarrett, established himself in the mid-2000s in the London grime scene after starting with the crew Cold Blooded and later with The Movement, alongside Wretch 32, Ghetts, Devlin and Mercston. His direct writing and tense flow place him in a grime and British hip-hop register marked by dry productions, nervy rhythms and constant attention to diction. Very active on the pirate radio circuit and in clashes that helped shape the north London scene at the time, Scorcher also developed a producer’s activity in parallel, notably on the 2006 mixtape Simply The Best, then on Thunder Power in 2007. He then released the album Concrete Jungle in 2009, before continuing with several mixtapes including Jungle Book in 2010, Audio Wave in 2011, Simply The Best 3 in 2012 and 1 of 1 in 2014. Scorcher’s career also includes screen roles, with parts in Top Boy in 2011, Offender in 2012, The Intent in 2016, Road in 2017, and Mangrove in 2020. Returning more regularly to music from 2019 with tracks like Gargoyle, Could Be Worse, 9 and Sandpit, Scorcher remains firmly rooted in British rap, balancing grime heritage, urban tension and more contemporary formats.
