Sango
Between Seattle, where he is born, and Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he grows up, Sango builds a producer and DJ universe shaped by the intersection of hip-hop, contemporary R&B and Afro-Latin musics. Active within the Soulection collective from the early 2010s, Sango emerged through digital releases and a sustained presence on beat-music stages, linking SoundCloud culture with clubs and festivals. His work centers on rhythms drawn from Brazilian baile funk and American trap, paired with more atmospheric electronic textures and frequent nods to gospel, soul and jazz. The Da Rocinha series positions him as an artisan of a continual dialogue between instrumental productions and samples from Brazilian popular music, while albums like North (2013) and In the Comfort Of (2018) shape a discography oriented as much to listening as to the dancefloor. Sango regularly collaborates with rappers and R&B singers such as Xavier Omär, GoldLink and Bryson Tiller, and adapts his sets to contexts ranging from intimate clubs to large venues, maintaining a through-line of rhythmic editing and vocal foregrounding.
