Sandi Thom
Born in Banff in northeast Scotland, Sandi Thom emerged on the British scene in the mid‑2000s with pop‑folk songwriting centred on acoustic guitar and everyday themes. Trained at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, she later moved to London, played a string of intimate shows and distinguished herself through a strong online presence that led to a first major‑label deal. Her debut album, “Smile... It Confuses People” (2006), propelled by the single “I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)”, established a sound blending pop, folk and light rock touches. With “The Pink & The Lily” (2008) she remained within a pop framework but introduced more electric tones before shifting toward a more pronounced blues‑rock on “Merchants and Thieves” (2010), which features collaborations with musicians from the Anglo‑Saxon rock and blues scene. “Flesh and Blood” (2012), partly recorded in the United States, deepens this roots direction with Americana and soul influences. Alongside her albums, Sandi Thom has toured the UK and internationally, released independent projects and recorded covers, cementing a career in which songwriting remains central, between British folk heritage and references to 1960s–70s rock.
