Salvador Sobral

Born in Lisbon in 1989, Salvador Sobral belongs to a vocal tradition where jazz, Lusophone chanson, bossa nova, and acoustic pop cross paths. After a notable appearance on the Portuguese show Ídolos in 2009, he trains in Barcelona at the Taller de Músics, an environment that durably shapes his writing and his interpretation toward flexible, intimate forms closely tied to phrasing. In the early 2010s, Salvador Sobral sings in Spain and Portugal, collaborates with the Barcelona group Noko Woi and performs notably at Sónar, before launching his solo career with Excuse Me in 2016, co-produced with Júlio Resende and Leonardo Aldrey. His repertoire then blends jazz-inspired standards, Mediterranean chanson, and compositions with spare arrangements. In 2017, Salvador Sobral wins the Festival da Canção and then Eurovision for Portugal with Amar pelos dois, a song written by his sister Luísa Sobral, a moment that greatly broadens his visibility without changing the musical direction of his work. He then continues a career focused on live performance and the album, with Paris, Lisboa in 2019, bpm in 2021 and Timbre in 2023. Parallel, Salvador Sobral participates in the Alexander Search project with Júlio Resende, around texts linked to Fernando Pessoa, extending a careful path bridging chanson, poetry, and improvisation.
