Sacred Steel

Formed in Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, Sacred Steel has since 1996 evolved in a register between traditional heavy metal, European power metal and speed metal, with darker incursions into thrash, doom or death metal depending on the period. The band has built itself around the voice of Gerrit P. Mutz and a songwriting style marked by warlike, occult and fantastical themes typical of classic metal, in a direct and muscular format. Signed in the late 1990s to Metal Blade, Sacred Steel released Reborn in Steel in 1997, followed by Wargods of Metal in 1998 and Bloodlust in 2000, before continuing with Slaughter Prophecy in 2002 and Iron Blessings in 2004. After the departure of guitarists Jörg Michael Knittel and Oliver Großhans, Sacred Steel reorganizes its lineup around Gerrit Mutz, Jens Sonnenberg, Jonas Khalil, Kai Schindelar and Matthias Straub, a lineup that carried the albums Hammer of Destruction in 2006, Carnage Victory in 2009, The Bloodshed Summoning in 2013 and Heavy Metal Sacrifice in 2016. Present on the European metal scene since its beginnings, Sacred Steel has played at numerous festivals and tours, including Wacken Open Air, while maintaining an identity faithful to 1980s heavy metal and occasionally hardening its approach.
