Some Velvet Morning
Originating from the London scene and formed in the early 2000s around Desmond Lambert, Rob Flanagan and Gavin Lambert, after an initial spell with keyboardist Yann McCullough, Some Velvet Morning developed a British indie rock style at the crossroads of alternative rock, pop and a soul-tinged background drawn from their early tracks. Initially active on the London club circuit, the band settled as a trio and refined a more urgent format centered on guitars, a direct rhythmic drive and melodic choruses. Some Velvet Morning recorded with Rik Simpson and Mike Pelanconi before releasing Silence Will Kill You in 2007, and went on to release Allies in 2012, Musical Chairs in 2016 and Rough Seas in 2021. Their trajectory also includes tours across the UK, in Europe—notably France—and along the US East Coast. Several songs circulated beyond the record format, appearing in the trailer for Kick-Ass, in the film Kat and the Band and in various television uses. Over the years Some Velvet Morning has maintained concise songwriting and the sound of a rock trio in which Desmond Lambert’s voice and guitars converse with Gavin Lambert’s bass and Rob Flanagan’s drums.
