Rummelsnuff
Under the name Rummelsnuff, Roger Baptist has been crafting since Berlin a musical universe that sits between electropunk, EBM and contemporary workers’ song, featuring direct tracks often driven by mechanical rhythms, simple choruses and a deep, highly recognisable voice. Born in 1966 in Großenhain in the GDR and raised in his family’s musical environment near Dresden, he studied the bassoon and played in orchestras before turning in the 1980s to keyboards, bass and formations from the East German underground. Roger Baptist founded Kein Mitleid in 1987, joined Freunde der italienischen Oper from 1989 and launched Automatic Noir in 1992, in a style closer to EBM and Neue Deutsche Härte. After a multi-year hiatus — during which he worked as a seaman and later in the sports sector in Berlin — the Rummelsnuff project took shape around 2004–2005. Subsequent releases include Halt’ durch! (2008), Sender Karlshorst (2010), Himmelfahrt (2012), Kraftgewinn (2013), Rummelsnuff & Asbach (2016, with Christian Asbach) and Salzig schmeckt der Wind (2018). On stage and on record, Rummelsnuff alternates work songs, ballads and covers, mainly in German, within an intentionally sober and physical aesthetic.
