RP Boo

Born in Chicago in 1972, Kavain Wayne Space, under the names RP Boo and Arpebu, has forged a closely linked path with the city\'s juke and footwork scenes. Active since the late 1990s, he began as a DJ and dancer within the House-O-Matics milieu, in a context where ghetto house practices were accelerating and transforming to accompany the dance. RP Boo participated in this evolution with tracks that became early touchstones of footwork, built on stuttering rhythms, fragmented vocal loops, and a constant tension between repetition, emptiness, and restart. His music retains a very physical dimension while working with abrupt cuts and assemblages that push the codes of Chicago house toward a drier and more nerve-wracking form. After years of mostly local circulation, his discography expanded with the album Legacy in 2013, followed by Fingers, Bank Pads, and Shoe Prints in 2015, I’ll Tell You What in 2018, Established! in 2021, and Legacy Volume 2 in 2023. As much a DJ as a producer, RP Boo remains linked to the living history of Chicago footwork, balancing studio work, performances, and enduring ties to the local dance culture.
