Rowwen Heze

Born in the Limburg village of America in the Netherlands, Rowwen Hèze formed in the mid-1980s around singer-songwriter Jack Poels with the idea of rooting rock and popular music in the Limburgish dialect. The band gradually developed a repertoire combining folk-rock, Tex‑Mex influences, fanfare, polka and Dutch song, driven by accordion, brass and a classic rock rhythm section. Rowwen Hèze’s lyrics address rural everyday life, family, work, village festivities and melancholy, in a highly local language that became central to their identity. After early years marked by covers, the group established itself on the Dutch scene in the late 1980s thanks to its own compositions and a busy concert schedule, ranging from club venues to large carnival tents, especially in the south of the Netherlands. Rowwen Hèze subsequently toured extensively in the Netherlands and neighbouring countries and carried out occasional projects with fanfares and regional brass ensembles, consolidating an image of a stage‑oriented band attached to its territory while remaining a lasting presence in the Dutch pop landscape.
