Rosario

Born in Madrid in 1963, Rosario Flores — often simply known as Rosario — grew up in a family closely linked to flamenco and rumba; her mother was Lola Flores and her father Antonio González, known as El Pescaílla. She began acting as a child and continued into her teens, while launching a music career with the mini-album Vuela de noche in 1984. Her discography became more defined with De ley (1992), Siento (1994) and Mucho por vivir (1996), where her songwriting blended Latin pop, rumba, flamenco inflections, funk, soul and bossa nova. She pursued this fusion on Jugar a la locura (1999) and Muchas flores (2001), the latter marking a clear return to Catalan rumba and familial references. Her subsequent work alternates between original material and albums of covers or reinterpretations, including De mil colores (2003), Contigo me voy (2006), Parte de mí (2008), Cuéntame (2009), Rosario (2013) and Gloria a ti (2016). Rosario has developed a repertoire in which the rumba’s tempo meets upbeat pop, supported by a flexible, expressive vocal delivery. She has also worked in film and television, notably in Pedro Almodóvar’s Hable con ella (Talk to Her), and has been a coach for several seasons on La Voz and La Voz Kids.
