Romano
Based in Berlin-Köpenick, Romano blends German pop, rap and electronic influences in a universe strongly informed by the aesthetics of the former GDR and the culture of Berlin’s outskirts. Under his given name, Roman Geike, he first performed on various local scenes under different aliases before launching Romano in the mid-2010s — a period in which his early, visually assertive clips circulated widely online and established him as a distinctive voice in German-language pop. The 2015 album “Jenseits von Köpenick” laid the foundations of his songwriting, combining neighborhood narratives, everyday descriptions and character portraits with productions that mix hip-hop rhythms, schlager-like choruses and touches of synth-pop. Romano followed in 2017 with “Copyshop”, which extends this register-mixing while focusing more on the world of work, offices and standardized spaces, all the while retaining his highly articulated, often spoken-sung delivery. Alternating club shows and festival dates, Romano deliberately plays on the contrasts between his appearance, popular references and the diversity of his audiences, building over the years a discography centered on Berlin, its surroundings and their social transformations.
