Richard Walters
Born in Oxford in 1982, Richard Walters has since the early 2000s developed a trajectory between intimate folk, orchestral pop and atmospheric songwriting. After stints in several bands and then with Theremin, he began his solo career with the Umbrella Songs EP in 2004, before following up with the Pilotlights EP in 2007. His music rests on a sober melodic writing, hushed arrangements and a soft voice often placed at the center of acoustic or lightly electronic compositions. Richard Walters subsequently released the albums The Animal (2009), Pacing (2011), Regret Less (2012), A.M. (2016), Golden Veins (2020) and Murmurate (2023), evolving his range toward a broader pop, always marked by attention to detail and atmosphere. Over the years, Walters has also collaborated with Noel Hogan, Bernard Butler, Joe Henry or Morgan Page, which has led him to move between the indie scene, pop songwriting and electronic projects. In parallel to his own name, he participates in the trio LYR with Simon Armitage and Patrick Pearson, as well as in the duo Sun Lo with Canadian producer ATTLAS, prolonging a body of work where ballads, downtempo textures and more contemplative forms cross paths.
