Rebekka Bakken

Born in 1970 near Oslo, Norway, Rebekka Bakken has built a career at the crossroads of jazz, pop and folk, marked by periods in Scandinavia, New York and then Vienna, where she settled in the 1990s. After beginnings in rock and gospel bands, she came to prominence on the European jazz scene around 2000, notably alongside guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel and with the project “Scattering Poems,” setting texts by E. E. Cummings with the Julia Hülsmann Trio. Her solo career began with the album “The Art Of How To Fall” (2003), followed by “Is That You?” (2005) and “I Keep My Cool” (2006), which established a style focused on singer‑songwriter material, jazz‑tinged harmonies and often intimate atmospheres. She followed with “Morning Hours” (2009), “September” (2011) and “Little Drop Of Poison” (2014), devoted to the repertoire of Tom Waits, before broadening her palette on “Things You Leave Behind” (2018), “Winter Nights” (2020) and “Always On My Mind” (2022). Her work, mainly in English, plays clubs and festivals across Europe, where she develops a repertoire combining slow ballads, Americana influences and more rhythmic compositions.
