Scorpions
Formed in Hanover, Germany, in 1965 around guitarist Rudolf Schenker, Scorpions initially embraced psychedelic rock before shifting toward a more structured hard rock. The arrival of singer Klaus Meine in the early 1970s cemented the band’s identity; they released their debut album, "Lonesome Crow," in 1972, then honed a blend of melodic heavy metal and electric ballads on "In Trance" (1975), "Virgin Killer" (1976), and "Taken by Force" (1977), with Uli Jon Roth on lead guitar. From "Lovedrive" (1979) onward, with the addition of Matthias Jabs, Scorpions developed a more direct sound built on catchy riffs and choruses sung in unison, evident on "Animal Magnetism" (1980), "Blackout" (1982), and "Love at First Sting" (1984). This period was marked by extensive touring across Europe, the United States, and Asia. The late 1980s and "Crazy World" (1990) placed Scorpions at the heart of Europe’s political transformations, with a repertoire mixing fast tracks and ballads inspired by tours in the East. The 1990s and 2000s saw the band experiment with more modern textures on "Eye II Eye" (1999) before returning to classic hard rock on "Unbreakable" (2004), "Humanity: Hour I" (2007), "Sting in the Tail" (2010), "Return to Forever" (2015), and "Rock Believer" (2022). Still active, Scorpions continue to tour widely with a core of Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, and Matthias Jabs, upholding an aesthetic centered on guitars, vocal melodies, and a stage-focused format.
