Sandra Nkaké
Born in Yaoundé in 1973 and settled in France as a child, Sandra Nkaké has, since the late 1990s, built a career at the intersection of soul, jazz, rock and folk‑tinged pop, driven by a deep voice and a strong taste for stage formats. Initially active in theatre and film, she brought her music to jazz and contemporary music stages, collaborating with China Moses, Tony Allen, Julien Lourau, Troublemakers, Ji Mob and PUSH UP!, before asserting a personal repertoire. Her debut album, Mansaadi, was released in 2008, followed by Nothing For Granted in 2012, co‑written with musician Jî Drû, who later became a central partner in her work. This artistic relationship continued with the visual and musical project Shadow of a Doubt, then with Tangerine Moon Wishes (2017) and Scars (2023). In Sandra Nkaké’s work, writing remains tied to groove, to contrasts of timbre and to a way of making soul intensity, jazz freedom and rock tension converse without pigeonholing styles. In parallel, she also pursues an acting career in theatre, film and television.
