Pram

Pram formed in 1988 in the Moseley district of Birmingham around Rosie Cuckston, Matt Eaton, Sam Owen and Andy Weir, before undergoing several lineup changes and operating as a collective with a fluid membership. The band developed a style situated between post‑rock, electronic pop, experimental rock and avant‑pop, creating pieces that combine repetitive rhythms, keyboards, brass/wind instruments and atmospheres that are both melodic and off‑kilter, drawing on krautrock, exotica and dub. After Gash in 1992, initially self‑released, Pram recorded for Too Pure the albums The Stars Are So Big, the Earth Is So Small... Stay as You Are (1993), Helium (1994) and Sargasso Sea (1995). The group later joined Domino, on which North Pole Radio Station (1998), The Museum of Imaginary Animals (2000), Dark Island (2003) and The Moving Frontier (2007) were issued. Pram’s output also includes film scores, remixes and audiovisual projects linked to animation and performance. Following Rosie Cuckston’s departure in 2008, the band observed a long recording hiatus, resumed activity from 2016 and returned with the album Across the Meridian in 2018, featuring Sam Owen on vocals.
