Piney Gir

Based in London since the late 1990s, after growing up in Kansas City, Piney Gir has since the early 2000s built a career that fuses indie pop, alternative country, electronica and psychedelic rock in formats that are often shifting. After a spell in the synth-pop duo Vic Twenty, she launched her solo project Peakahokahoo in 2004, then steered her writing toward a more Americana vein with Hold Yer Horses in 2006 and the associated Piney Gir Country Roadshow. The rest of her discography shows this constant movement between styles, from The Yearling in 2009, which blends electronic textures and folk-country songwriting, to Jesus Wept in 2010, Geronimo! in 2011, mR. hYDE’S wILD rIDE in 2015 and You Are Here in 2019, where more art rock and angular pop are heard. Piney Gir also performs on British, European and American stages, with festival appearances such as Glastonbury and SXSW, while pursuing occasional collaborations with musicians from London’s indie pop scene. Parallel to her solo work, Piney Gir has sung in the live outfits of Gaz Coombes and Noel Gallagher, which also sheds light on her place in a network of musicians where vocal harmonies, taut guitars, retro keyboards and cross-Atlantic pop melodies coexist.
