Peter and the Test Tube Babies
Formed in the late 1970s in Peacehaven near Brighton, England, Peter and the Test Tube Babies are part of the second British punk wave, sitting between fast punk rock and Oi! influences. Around singer Peter Bywaters and guitarist Del Strangefish, the band early on developed a direct style based on simple riffs, shouted choruses and ironic lyrics inspired by alcohol, football and suburban life. After several shows in the south of England, Peter and the Test Tube Babies made a name for themselves on the independent scene and released the live album "Pissed and Proud" in 1982, followed by "The Mating Sounds of South American Frogs" in 1983, which firmly established the band in the punk landscape. The years that followed were marked by lineup changes, alternating hiatuses and comebacks, and a steady presence on British and European stages—especially on club and punk festival tours. Still centered on raw energy and deliberately provocative humour, Peter and the Test Tube Babies extended their discography into the 2020s with the album "Fuctifano" released in 2020.
