Pete Murray

Born in Chinchilla, Queensland, in 1969, and after a spell in Brisbane before settling in Melbourne to develop his career, Pete Murray belongs to an Australian songwriting tradition that blends acoustic rock, folk and melodic pop. After the EP D Day and a first independent album, The Game, released in 2001, Pete Murray broadened his audience with Feeler in 2003, propelled notably by the song "So Beautiful", then followed with See the Sun in 2005 and Summer at Eureka in 2008 — three albums that left a lasting mark on his discography. His work rests on flexible group line-ups and ongoing collaborations, particularly with Ben McCarthy, who has accompanied him over time. His subsequent releases include Blue Sky Blue (2011) and a reworking of that repertoire titled Blue Sky Blue "The Byron Sessions", before Camacho in 2017. In the early 2020s he issued the EPs The Night (2021) and Before I Go (2022), then the compilation Best of Pete Murray (2023); an album, Longing, has been announced for 2025. His style remains focused on direct melodies, a prominent acoustic guitar and a deep voice, in a register between folk-rock, soft rock and pop.
