Paul Daraîche

Active on Quebec’s country scene since the late 1960s, Paul Daraîche stands in the tradition of francophone singer-songwriters who have adapted the codes of North American country to the local chanson tradition. Born in Saint‑François‑de‑Pabos, in Gaspésie, and later based in Montreal, he began as a musician in bar bands before moving more decisively toward country—first within local groups, then as a solo artist. His repertoire, sung in French, blends sentimental ballads, road narratives, and family themes, set to arrangements that range from traditional country to folk influences and touches of pop. Coming from a family deeply involved in this milieu, Daraîche toured extensively from the 1970s onward, playing regional venues, country festivals, and cabarets, while also writing for other performers on the same scene. His discography expanded over the decades, notably with the duet album “Mes amours, mes amis” in 2012, followed by “Nous” in 2014 and “Ma maison favorite” in 2016—releases that extend a body of work focused on passing on the tradition and showcasing voices from francophone country. Between family collaborations, collective projects, and concerts across Quebec, Paul Daraîche has sustained a continuous presence in a field where closeness to the audience and storytelling remain central.
