Patrick Sweany

Born in Massillon, Ohio, Patrick Sweany has built a career rooted in American blues since the late 1990s. He began as a solo festival performer and, from 2001, led the Patrick Sweany Band — an electric trio deliberately conceived without a bassist — playing in a spare, direct style that mixes blues rock, 1950s rock’n’roll, soul and country inflections. Sweany released I Wanna Tell You in 1999 and henryfordbedroom in 2003, before a more decisive turn with C’Mon C’Mere in 2006, co-produced by Dan Auerbach and Jimbo Mathus. He followed with Every Hour Is a Dollar Gone (2007), That Old Southern Drag (2011) and Close to the Floor (2013), the latter made with Joe V. McMahan, a regular collaborator during that period. Settling in East Nashville from 2009, Sweany also became part of the local Americana scene while retaining songwriting focused on guitar, groove and a restrained vocal approach. His discography continued with Daytime Turned to Nighttime (2015) and Ancient Noise (2018), which confirm his balance between contemporary blues, roots songwriting and a garage-like tension.
