Patrick Norman

Born in Montreal as Yvon Éthier, Patrick Norman established himself in Quebec song from the 1960s, first as a member of Les Fabuleux élégants, before adopting his stage name in 1969. A guitarist and singer, Patrick Norman built a repertoire rooted in country with folk and pop influences, characterized by simple, melodic songwriting and a direct style of performance, sometimes in French and sometimes in English. His career spans several registers: he also recorded English-language songs in the 1970s and 1980s, at times leaning toward danceable pop on certain tracks, while remaining associated with the Quebec country scene. The 1984 song "Quand on est en amour" remains one of his most recognizable discographic landmarks. Over the decades, Patrick Norman has multiplied stage projects, television appearances and collaborations, notably with Renée Martel— with whom he shared many country engagements— and with William Dunker, Jeff Smallwood and Bourbon Gauthier on the album Les Fabuleux élégants (1998).
