Radiohead

Originally from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, Radiohead has brought together since the mid-1980s Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O’Brien and Philip Selway around songwriting that was initially rooted in British alternative rock. After starting out as On a Friday, the quintet released Pablo Honey in 1993, which features 'Creep', and then honed a tighter, more melodic guitar sound on The Bends (1995). With OK Computer (1997) Radiohead broadened its scope toward a more expansive art rock, threaded with electronic textures and a more fragmented approach to arrangements. That evolution continued with Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001), albums marked by ambient, electronica, jazz and less linear rhythmic forms. Subsequently Radiohead alternates more straightforward songs with sonic experimentation on Hail to the Thief (2003), In Rainbows (2007), The King of Limbs (2011) and A Moon Shaped Pool (2016). Initially associated with the English alternative scene and later with international venues and festivals, Radiohead built a trajectory in which pop songwriting, experimental atmospheres and work on sonic texture coexist without sharp breaks.
