Old Man Luedecke

Under the name Old Man Luedecke, Chris Luedecke has developed from Chester, Nova Scotia, a folk songwriting voice that blends bluegrass, alt-country and North American acoustic tradition, with the banjo serving as an anchor for much of his career. Emerging in the early 2000s with Mole in the Ground (2003), his music took on a more established shape with Hinterland (2006), and then with Proof of Love (2008) and My Hands Are on Fire and Other Love Songs (2010), records that firmly placed him on the Canadian roots scene. Old Man Luedecke then evolved his arrangements and song formats on Tender Is the Night (2012), I Never Sang Before I Met You (2014) and Domestic Eccentric (2015), while retaining a direct, narrative and melodic approach. His career also includes the Pan-Canadian New Folk Ensemble alongside Kim Barlow and Christine Fellows, and work with Howard Bilerman, Afie Jurvanen, Tim O’Brien and Fats Kaplin on Easy Money (2019). In 2024 Old Man Luedecke released She Told Me Where to Go, an album that again shifts his aesthetic, and its title track appears on the soundtrack of the game Pacific Drive.
