Odyssey

Born in New York at the end of the 1970s in the wake of the Lopez Sisters, Odyssey first established itself as a vocal trio mixing disco, soul and danceable pop, with songwriting geared toward clubs as much as radio. Formed around Lillian, Louise and Carmen Lopez before several lineup changes, the group took its most well-known form with Lillian Lopez on vocals, followed by the addition of musicians and singers such as Tony Reynolds, Bill McEachern and later Steven Collazo, who became a central pillar of its evolution. Odyssey recorded a series of albums for RCA, including Odyssey (1977), Hollywood Party Tonight (1978), Hang Together (1980), I Got the Melody (1981) and Happy Together (1982). Their sound blends smooth bass lines, orchestral arrangements, soulful choruses and disco rhythms, with tracks such as Native New Yorker, Use It Up and Wear It Out, Going Back to My Roots and Inside Out, which particularly marked the United Kingdom and Europe. From the 1980s, Odyssey continued its path between television, tours and nostalgia disco stages, with activity increasingly rooted in the United Kingdom. Under the direction of Steven Collazo, Odyssey continued to perform and record, notably with the Legacy album in 2011 and the Together EP in 2014, extending a repertoire situated between urban soul, orchestral disco and pop-funk.
