Obus
Born in the early 1980s in the Madrid area, Obús established themselves as one of the early representatives of Spanish heavy metal in a context marked by the end of the dictatorship and the rise of a freer rock scene. Formed around Fortu Sánchez (vocals), Paco Laguna (guitar), Juan Luis Serrano (bass) and Fernando Sánchez (drums), Obús developed a Spanish‑sung hard rock/heavy metal marked by direct riffs, catchy choruses and lyrics that address both nightlife and partying as well as social or everyday themes. Initially produced with the support of Tino Casal, the band’s early releases include the albums “Prepárate” (1981), “Poderoso como el trueno” (1982), “El que más” (1984), “Pega con fuerza” (1985) and “Otra vuelta de tuerca” (1988), which anchored them in the Iberian metal wave of the 1980s. After a break in the early 1990s, Obús reformed toward the end of the decade, continued in the studio with releases such as “Desde el fondo del abismo” (2000) and “Segundos fuera” (2009), and remained active on Spanish and Hispanic rock stages. Through lineup changes, the core of Obús has continued to blend classic hard rock, 1980s metal and stage energy, relying on a repertoire firmly rooted in Spanish‑language rock culture.
