Nu-Look

Formed in Miami around the turn of the 2000s around Haitian singer, keyboardist and composer Arly Larivière, Nu-Look continues the tradition of Haitian compas while opening it up to smoother arrangements, sentimental ballads and influences from R&B and zouk. The project emerged after Larivière’s stint with ZIN and quickly established itself on the circuit of Haitian diaspora orchestras across Florida, New York, the Caribbean, Canada and France. Over the years Nu-Look has functioned as a stage band centered on Larivière’s songwriting, undergoing several lineup changes without altering its musical identity: a direct yet supple compas driven by keyboards and guitars, prominent melodic vocals and a steady focus on love themes. In the landscape of modern konpa, Nu-Look thus occupies a lasting place between Haitian orchestral tradition and more contemporary production, with a repertoire that circulates in both community concerts and major Caribbean events.
