Plump DJs
Formed in London by Lee Rous and Andy Gardner in the late 1990s, Plump DJs initially emerged from the British breakbeat scene with a club sound that blends broken rhythms, house, bass music and electro touches. The two producers met around the label Freskanova before releasing their first joint tracks in 1999 on Finger Lickin’ Records, and later circulated their name with mixes such as Elastic Breaks and Urban Underground in 2001. Plump DJs then developed an activity split between productions, DJ sets and compilations, notably FabricLive.08 in 2003, the period that also saw the release of Eargasm, an album marked by collaborations with Gary Numan and Louise Rhodes. What followed confirmed a broader compositional range than breakbeat alone, audible on Saturday Night Lotion in 2005 and Headthrash in 2008, while Plump DJs held a residency at Fabric for several years, a key spot in London’s nightlife. From 2010 the duo also released music on their own Grand Hotel label and evolved their sets toward a more open format, between breaks, house and heftier grooves. Over the years Plump DJs have also produced remixes for artists such as Orbital, Mark Ronson and deadmau5, while remaining active on club and festival circuits in the UK and internationally.
