Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado

Based in Donostia-San Sebastián, the Basque duo Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado brings together guitarist-vocalist Usue Arrieta and drummer Koldo Soret around a heavy rock sound that mixes stoner, garage and touches of grunge. Formed in the early 2010s, Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado first developed on the independent scene in the Basque Country and across Spain, playing a string of shows in clubs, social centers and festivals devoted to amplified music. The songs, sung mainly in Euskara with occasional forays into Spanish, rely on repetitive riffs, slow to mid-tempo rhythms and a minimalist guitar-and-drums duo aesthetic. Their first full-length album, “Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado” (2013), was followed by “Eate” (2016) and “Aitzstar” (2019), which continue this approach while opening it up to more psychedelic atmospheres. The band occasionally collaborates with other formations from the Basque underground scene, such as Don Condor eta Ñora Alacran, and over the course of tours has developed a repertoire suited to both small venues and large festival stages, while retaining an identity strongly marked by the Basque language and a DIY rock culture.
