Nicolas Folmer

Born in Albertville in 1976, Nicolas Folmer has developed since the late 1990s a career as a trumpeter, composer and arranger within the French jazz scene. His work moves between hard bop, post-bop, electric jazz and funk influences, with a constant focus on composition and ensemble formats. Folmer first appeared in various contemporary jazz groups before leading his own formations, from quintet to larger orchestral projects. His path has intersected with figures such as Daniel Humair and Dave Liebman, while he alternates roles as leader, sideman and arranger. Over the years he has broadened his aesthetic toward more open forms, where improvisation engages with electric textures, pronounced grooves and reinterpretations of the jazz repertoire. Active on club and festival stages, Nicolas Folmer brings together in a continuous approach the bop legacy, contemporary writing and a more fusion-oriented sound.
