Percubaba

Born between Saint-Malo and Rennes in the late 1990s, Percubaba formed in 1997 around several Breton high school students bringing together a rock group and a core of percussionists, before becoming a broad live collective, with brass, a rhythm section and several voices. Percubaba develops a blend of reggae and ska punctuated by ragga, funk, hip-hop and rock, with a strong emphasis on percussion and collective energy. After early gigs in venues, bars and café-concerts in Brittany, the band created its own label, Foutadawa, in 1999 to stay independent. Its studio discography includes Percubaba (2000), Dream and Strup (2002), AntistatiQ (2006) and Primitifs (2010), as well as a live album, Percubaba Live, released in 2005. Over tours in France and abroad, Percubaba has established itself in a circuit where festive reggae, blended rock and alternative cultures intersect, with tracks built as much on groove as on rhythm breaks, brass interventions and the crossing of vocals and flows. The band ceased activities in 2013, with a farewell concert given at La Nouvelle Vague, in Saint-Malo.
