Patrick Bruel
Patrick Bruel is a French singer, songwriter and actor. Born in 1959 in Algeria as Patrick Maurice Benguigui, he left his native Algeria in 1962 and settled in Argenteuil, France, in 1962. Still very young, Patrick Bruel learned to play the guitar and developed a passion for theater. His interest led him to take some acting classes, but he learned the craft of acting primarily on stage when he became an entertainer at a well-known holiday club. Alongside playing guitar, Patrick Bruel made his first film appearance in Le coup de Sirocco (1979). In 1959 his first album Alors Regarde… was released; it contains some of Patrick Bruel’s most famous songs, such as “Place des grands hommes.” The singer achieved fame with this debut album and soon acquired star status. Patrick Bruel’s good looks charmed fans who flocked to see him in concert. He continued to appear in numerous French films alongside respected actors, including Un secret by Claude Miller (2007), L’ivresse du pouvoir by Claude Chabrol (2006) and Le prénom by Matthieu Delaporte (2012). Alongside his film work, Patrick Bruel recorded albums including the well-known Juste avant (1999) and Rien ne s’efface (2001), on which he sings with Johnny Hallyday. After six years of silence during which he devoted himself to other musical and film projects (Les Enfoirés, etc.), the singer returned in 2012 with Lequel de nous, an album he promoted on tour, performing a long series of concerts in France.
