Parabellum
Formed in Paris in the mid-1980s around singer Schultz, Parabellum carved out a place on the French alternative rock scene with a dry, frontal punk rock at the crossroads of alternative rock, Oi! and a pronounced taste for popular barroom songs. Parabellum developed within independent circuits, self-managed venues and punk networks, with lyrics that mix irony, slang, social commentary and libertarian imagery. Their repertoire combines the urgency of punk, rock’n’roll rhythms and a strongly asserted French character, far from a mere Anglo-Saxon copy. Associated with the 1980s and 1990s of French alternative rock, Parabellum remains tied to Schultz’s voice and to a streetwise, abrasive and direct aesthetic that has accompanied several periods of activity and returns to the stage.
