Morat
Formed in Bogotá, Colombia, Morat has brought together since the early 2010s Juan Pablo Isaza, Simón Vargas, Juan Pablo Villamil and — after Alejandro Posada's departure in 2016 — Martín Vargas in a quartet format centered on acoustic strings and vocal harmonies. Positioned within Latin pop and folk-pop, the band develops songs with classical structures, supported by simple melodic arrangements where guitars, bass and banjo back romantic and narrative lyrics. Morat's career took a new turn in the mid-2010s with the collaboration Mi nuevo vicio alongside Paulina Rubio, which opened Spanish and Latin American stages to the group. They then followed with tours and multiple duets with Spanish-language pop artists such as Álvaro Soler, Aitana and Sebastián Yatra, while consolidating their repertoire through studio albums like Sobre el amor y sus efectos secundarios (2016), Balas perdidas (2018), A dónde vamos? (2021) and Si ayer fuera hoy (2022). Between slow ballads and more upbeat tracks designed for live performance, Morat has established itself in a register where Spanish-language pop remains front and center, with particular attention to sing-along choruses and an accessible, radio-friendly aesthetic suited to major mainstream stages.
