Oneman

Born in 1986 and hailing from Streatham in south London, Oneman, real name Steven Bishop, trained in the environment of British pirate radio before joining Rinse FM in 2006, a station to which his career remains closely tied. His sets move between dubstep, grime, UK garage, UK funky and hip-hop, with a mixing approach based on transitions between eras and scenes rather than belonging to a single register. Marked in his early days by the energy of DMZ nights, Oneman established himself first as a DJ before building a substantial personal discography, notably with an appearance on BBC Radio 1 in 2008 in Mary Anne Hobbs's Generation Bass series. He then signed the Rinse:11 mixes in 2010 and FabricLive.64 in 2012, followed by the Solitaire Vol. 1 and Solitaire Vol. 2 mixes in 2013, as well as Solitaire Vol. 3 in 2014. In parallel, Oneman launched the label 502 Recordings in 2010, participated in the Standard Place party project with Jon Rust, DJ Reecha and MC ASBO, and developed Can U Dance with Jackmaster in back-to-back sets. Present in clubs as well as at festivals—from Unsound to Sonar, via Fabric, XOYO or Boiler Room—Oneman remains associated with a distinctly London take on club music, characterized by constant crossovers between British bass music, garage rhythms and sound-system culture.
