Mike Massé
Born in the United States in 1970, Mike Massé has built from Utah a career focused on acoustic takes of rock classics, blending classic rock, folk-rock and soft rock with a strong emphasis on vocals and harmonies. His public trajectory began in 1993 with regular shows at the Pie Pizzeria in Salt Lake City, often alongside bassist Jeff Hall, a long-time collaborator he met while studying at Brigham Young University, where Massé trained in sound engineering. From 2008 he posted recordings of these performances to YouTube, expanding his audience through stripped-down versions of Anglo-American rock repertoire, notably a cover of Toto’s "Africa" recorded with Jeff Hall. That online visibility also led to several occasions singing with Barry Goudreau and Sib Hashian, former members of Boston. For many years he worked in parallel as an attorney in Salt Lake City, and he has developed a career grounded in live performance—solo or in duo—and a restrained reading of 1970s and 1980s rock.
