Michel Pagliaro
Born in Montreal in 1948, Michel Pagliaro emerged from the rock wave that swept Quebec in the late 1960s, following early stints with local groups such as Les Chanceliers. Early on, he embraced a rock and pop-rock palette tinged with blues and hard rock, driven by guitar and a direct vocal delivery, which he performed in both French and English. In the early 1970s, he launched a solo recording career with the album Pagliaro in 1971, followed by a second, also titled Pagliaro, in 1973, cementing his bilingual profile on Canadian stages. Songs like Lovin’ You Ain’t Easy and J’entends frapper placed him within a repertoire built on electric riffs, unadorned melodic lines, and memorable choruses, shaping a songwriting approach oriented toward rock. The 1976 album Pag coincided with a period of intensive touring across Quebec and the rest of Canada, spanning rock venues, festivals, and television appearances. Thereafter, Pagliaro alternated studio work and live performances, explored more melodic forms without abandoning the rock energy of his early years, and continued to move between Francophone and Anglophone circuits, expanding his catalog while regularly revisiting onstage the compositions that forged his artistic identity.
