Mica Paris
Born in Islington in north London, Mica Paris grew up between her grandparents’ church and the British gospel scene. As a teenager she sang with the choir Spirit of Watts before becoming a backing vocalist for Hollywood Beyond. That upbringing left a lasting imprint on her music, positioned between soul, gospel, contemporary R&B and touches of jazz, delivered with a broad, direct voice. She launched her solo career with So Good in 1988, followed by Contribution in 1990, which broadened her palette toward more urban sounds, and Whisper a Prayer in 1993. Over the years she has collaborated with artists such as Will Downing, Omar, Courtney Pine, Bobby Womack, Guru and Prince, while remaining linked to the English soul scene. Her discography also includes Black Angel (1998), If You Could Love Me and Soul Classics (2005), Born Again (2009) and Gospel (2020), which more explicitly returns to her spiritual roots. Alongside music, Mica Paris has worked in radio and television in the UK and has performed in theatre, extending a career built across several registers without leaving the field of British soul.
