Noa
Under the stage name Noa, singer-songwriter Achinoam Nini has built a career since the early 1990s that spans Israel, Europe and the United States. Born in Tel Aviv in 1969 and raised in New York in a Jewish family of Yemenite origin, Noa returned to Israel at the end of her adolescence, completed her military service and studied at the Rimon School of Music, where she met guitarist Gil Dor, who became her long-term stage and studio partner. Noa’s music blends pop, folk and jazz with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean modes; it is voice-centered, featuring direct melodies and arrangements ranging from a spare duo to orchestral formations, sung in Hebrew and English, and in some projects also in Italian or Arabic. Her first internationally released album, “Noa” (1994), opened a discography that includes, among others, “Calling” (1997), “Genes & Jeans” (2008), “Love Medicine” (2014), “Letters to Bach” (2019) and “Afterallogy” (2021). Noa regularly collaborates with Gil Dor, with composers such as Nicola Piovani and with singer Mira Awad, with whom she represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, and she places part of her activity in projects aimed at dialogue and encounters between regional musical scenes.
