Marco Antonio Solís

Born in Ario de Rosales in the state of Michoacán, Mexico, Marco Antonio Solís established himself in the Mexican popular music scene in the 1970s by co‑founding Los Bukis with his cousin Joel Solís. Within the group he wrote, sang and produced a repertoire that blended grupera, romantic ballads, Mexican cumbia and touches of mariachi, featuring sentimental lyrics and melodies deeply rooted in Latin American song traditions. After Los Bukis split in 1996, Solís launched a solo career with En pleno vuelo (1996), followed by Marco (1997) and Trozos de mi alma (1999), and continued with Más de mi alma (2001), Tu amor o tu desprecio (2003), Razón de sobra (2004), Trozos de mi alma, vol. 2 (2006), No molestar (2008), En total plenitud (2010) and Gracias por estar aquí (2013). His solo style retains the grupera foundation of his early work while embracing more orchestrated Latin pop, boleros and ranchero‑tinged elements. At the same time, Marco Antonio Solís developed a career as a songwriter and producer for other artists — including Marisela, Rocío Dúrcal, Olga Tañón and Enrique Iglesias — and remains a prominent presence on stages across Mexico, the United States and Latin America through solo tours, festival appearances and occasional reunions of Los Bukis.
