Mägo de Oz
Formed in Madrid in 1988 around the drummer and main songwriter Txus di Fellatio, Mägo de Oz built itself in a register blending heavy metal, hard rock and folk rock with a central role given to the violin, then to flutes and keyboards, which shaped an identity closely tied to Spanish folk metal. After a first self-titled album in 1994 and the rock opera Jesús de Chamberí in 1996, the band took on another dimension with La leyenda de La Mancha in 1998, then Finisterra in 2000, two records that durably established its taste for conceptual narratives, collective refrains and Celtic-inspired arrangements. Mägo de Oz subsequently developed this vein on Gaia in 2003, Gaia II: La voz dormida in 2005 and Gaia III: Atlantia in 2010, a trilogy that further broadened its spectrum between melodic metal, symphonic rock and social, historical or fantastical themes. The lineup has often evolved over the years, with Txus di Fellatio and the violinist Carlos Prieto “Mohamed” as constant reference points, while the group has maintained a strong live presence in Spain as in Latin America. More recently, Mägo de Oz released Bandera Negra in 2021 and Alicia en el Metalverso in 2024, continuing a repertoire where metal blends with popular, theatrical and narrative elements.
