M.O.P.

Originating in Brownsville in south Brooklyn, M.O.P. comprises Billy Danze and Lil' Fame, two rappers active since the early 1990s within an East Coast hardcore hip‑hop vein characterized by gritty voices, shouted hooks and dry, rhythm-driven production. M.O.P. first gained attention with the single "How About Some Hardcore?" in 1993, then released To the Death in 1994, Firing Squad in 1996 and First Family 4 Life in 1998. The duo belongs to the most abrasive New York school, is linked to the Gang Starr Foundation and worked regularly with DJ Premier, while Lil' Fame took an increasing role in production. With Warriorz in 2000 M.O.P. broadened its audience thanks to "Ante Up", a track that remained central to their trajectory. The subsequent years were marked by several label changes, projects sometimes delayed or reconfigured, a stint at Roc‑A‑Fella and then G‑Unit, and a continuing discography with Ghetto Warfare (2006), Foundation (2009), Sparta (2011, with Snowgoons) and Street Certified (2014). M.O.P. also made incursions into rap rock as Mash Out Posse without permanently abandoning their dense, confrontational New York hip‑hop duo identity.
