Logan Richardson

Alto saxophonist born in Kansas City (Missouri), Logan Richardson figures in the American contemporary jazz scene by developing a musical language that blends post‑bop heritage, current African‑American influences and urban cultures. After first making a notable impression in Kansas City clubs and then in New York in the early 2000s, Richardson emerged as a leader with the album Cerebral Flow (2006), followed by Ethos (2008), which laid the foundations for a style focused on direct melodies, open forms and a rhythmically contrasted approach. Later based between the United States and Europe, Richardson has multiplied collaborations—among them Jason Moran, Pat Metheny, Harish Raghavan and Nasheet Waits—while continuing his personal projects, including Shift (2016), Blues People (2018) and Afrofuturism (2020). His writing favors fragmented grooves, often dark harmonic atmospheres and tight interaction with his band, shaping music in which improvisation, repetitive motifs and references to rock, hip‑hop and electronic music coexist within a single acoustic framework.
