Last Dinosaurs

Based in Brisbane, Queensland, Last Dinosaurs emerged on Australia’s late-2000s indie rock scene with a marked taste for melodic guitars and danceable rhythms. Formed around singer-guitarist Sean Caskey—soon joined by his brother, guitarist Lachlan Caskey, and bassist Michael Sloane—the band first cut its teeth on local circuits before drawing attention with the 2010 EP “Back from the Dead.” They went on to hone a sound that blends indie rock, fast-tempo pop, and a new wave lineage, foregrounding razor-sharp guitar lines, prominent bass, and melodic motifs informed as much by Japanese pop as by post-punk. Their 2012 debut album, “In a Million Years,” opened the band to a wider audience, followed by 2015’s “Wellness,” which further pushed glossy pop textures and luminous atmospheres. With 2018’s “Yumeno Garden,” the trio explored dreamier hues while keeping the songwriting focused on direct hooks and tight structures, and they extended that trajectory with 2022’s “From Mexico with Love,” marked by stronger alternative pop influences. Active on Australian, Asian, European, and American stages, Last Dinosaurs have developed on tour a balance between indie rock energy and accessible melody, often recast in more electronic or stripped-back form depending on the live context.
